I’m currently participating in the Flourish Online 21 day blogging challenge – and scarily the challenge is to write one blog post a day! The first challenge was to share 10 personal and business related facts with you, so here goes…..
1. I have a secret crush on Gordon Ramsay
I think it’s his arms and general manliness (blush)!
2. I used to run a cheerleading squad in London
I, alongside one of my besties Claire, set up our own squad cheering for the Sutton Puma’s basketball team. We’d got into cheerleading at university, cheering in the mud and snow during winter season of American Football. When we set up on our own we definitely wanted to go a bit more glamorous so chose basketball as it was indoors and we could wear cute flyaway skirts!! Most people thought we were insane as cheerleading isn’t a massive sport in England. We were slight exhibitionists off the field too and even wore our outfits to Leicester Square club Café de Paris in London for 4th July and the owners thought we were the professional podium dancers so put us on the stage!
3. I love making cakes
4. My claims to fame are…
…prepare to be amazed….my great-aunt played with the real Von-Trapp family when she was a child in Austria. I walked past Jamie Oliver on a random East London street once. I served canapés to Sir Cliff Richard and Chelsea Football Club!
5. I’ve always been fascinated by entrepreneurship
When I was in my teens I read Richard Branson and Anita Roddick’s books about their journeys and fell in love with the creativity, leadership and passion for changing the world that these entrepreneurs had. I now consider myself an entrepreneur and for the past year my team and I have helped my clients – amazing, diverse entrepreneurs themselves – get recognised for the awesome work they do by getting them into mainstream press including Sky News, Sydney Morning Herald and Women’s Weekly, to name a few.
6. I fell in love with PR when I moved to Adelaide, Australia five years ago
I’d spent a lot of time working in senior communications and marketing roles in London, but found public relations to fit my skills and personality when I landed a role as Account Director in Australia’s biggest and most-awarded PR agency, PPR.
If I’d gone into PR as a graduate I think I would have been too shy but fifteen years later I love picking up the phone to journalists, creating great stories and getting national media coverage for my clients, the rush is so much fun!
7. I met my husband in Thailand
We met at a full moon party in Ko Pha Ngan. There were neon paints and buckets of Thai whiskey with very dodgy Thai red bull. It was a blast and part of a nine-month long South East Asia trip which was amazing.
8. My undergraduate was a BSc (hons) in Environmental Science, majoring in Environmental Law
In England, its more about the Uni you went to than what you study. When I tell Aussies what I graduated in they are very surprised as you’re meant to stick with your subject for the rest of your career apparently!
My first job was for a little South London publishing house (see glamorous shot below) which produced environmental titles. My skills leant more towards the selling, writing, marketing and communicating and that’s where my love of the media started.
9. I used to be the UK representative for a worldwide skills competition
This was a cool job. I got to travel all around Europe finding about other cultures. My favourite trip was to Sweden where we got to dance/hop around maypoles like frogs, drink schnapps and eat smoked deer for Midsummer celebrations. A stunning country with beautiful people.
10. My favourite drink is a dirty martini, nom, nom!
Woo what a ride. I hope you enjoyed reading this post. 20 more to go!!!?
